interpret digital signals, and phone lines can interpret analog signals. Modems caonvert the outgoing digital signals from a computer to analog signals that can be transmitted via telephone cables. Modems also convert the analog signals from a phone line to digital signals for a computer. The speed of a modem at which the data transfer is done is measured in Kbps (Kilo bits per second).

An internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides users access to the internet and other related services, such as hosting a Web site and providing space on the Web server to launch a Web site on the Internet. ISP provides users with usernames and passwords, which are required to connect to the Internet.
